When privacy glass is required for partitions, shower enclosures, doors and windows, many buyers get confused by different “frosted look” glass options. The two most common types are acid-etched (satin etched) glass and sandblasted glass. They look similar at first glance, but their performance and application are quite different.

Acid-Etched Glass (Satin Etched Glass)

It is also widely known as Yu Sha glass. It is made by chemical etching on clear float glass surface.

✅ Features:

  • Uniform, smooth satin surface, no grainy texture
  • Fingerprint resistant, easy to clean
  • Consistent matte effect across the whole panel
  • Can be tempered, laminated, cut into custom sizes
  • Light transmission is soft, no harsh glare
  • ⚠️ Limitation:
  • Higher cost than sandblasted glass; limited deep pattern options.

Sandblasted Glass

Made by blasting fine sand onto glass surface with high-pressure air.

✅ Features:

  • Lower production cost
  • Supports custom logos, patterns and graphic designs easily
  • ⚠️ Limitation:
  • Rough porous surface, easy to catch fingerprints and stains
  • Matte effect may be uneven if processing control is poor
  • The surface is easier to scratch

Quick Comparison Summary

  1. Touch feeling: Acid-etched = silky smooth | Sandblasted = rough
  2. Fingerprint: Acid-etched ✔ anti-fingerprint | Sandblasted ❌ easy to mark
  3. Consistency: Acid-etched very stable | Sandblasted depends on workmanship
  4. Best use case:
  5. Acid-etched glass: Office partitions, bathroom shower glass, luxury interior doors, high-end residential projects
  1. Sandblasted glass: Low-budget projects, decorative logos & pattern glass
